UPDATING OF HYDRAULIC CALCULATION OF THE PROTECTION FROM FIRE OF THE ABK-A COMPRESSION PLATFORM.

CONTEXT OF THE PROJECT

The Abkatun-A Compression Platform has a Fire Protection System based on seawater that consists of a general network for the service of protection which is constructed of three materials (Hybrid System), and therefore it is required to verify and validate this system through the development of the Hydraulic Calculation of the Hybrid Fire Protection System of the Platform.

The hydraulic analysis of the Fire Protection System is done by technical personnel certified by NFPA for the purpose of assessing the effectiveness of the system, including the performance tests of the firefighting pumps and mitigation equipment associated with the firefighting water network and the sprinkler systems (flow, pressure and velocity) ensuring normative compliance.

TECHNICAL CONTEXT

  1. The location of the pumps in the isometric maps and DTIs was identified.
  2. The performance curves were reviewed of the firefighting pumps belonging to the Abkatun-A Compression Platform.
  3. The fire protection systems and equipment found on the Abkatun-A Compression Platform were identified.
  4. The nodes and information capture in specialized commercial software were defined for the modeling of the firefighting network:
    • Water use that the sprinkler system requires (Qrequerida)
    • Pressure that the sprinkler system needs (Prequerida)
    • Flow velocity up to 15 ft/seg.
    • Losses from friction.
    • Flow velocities.
    • Use that can supply the pipe and pump system.
    • Residual pressure in the exit points of water to the sprinkler systems and other accessories (Monitors and Hydrants).
  5. Analysis of results and recommendations.

RESULTS OBTAINED

As a result of the data obtained by the hydraulic simulations a series of recommendations were generated for complying with the regulations of the hybrid firefighting network of the Abkatun-A Compression Platform. The above studies were validated by a NFPA Certified Fire Protection Specialist(CFPS).
